Weston Library: Building of the Year

The Weston Library has scooped yet another award, this time for the prestigious Building of the Year.

Weston Library The library, which has undergone an £80 million transformation, received the accolade at the Architects Journal AJ100 Awards.  The coveted award is given in recognition of the finest building completed by architects’ practices that are on the Architects Journal’s top 100 list.

Judges were impressed by the ‘phenomenal’  craftwork and detailing as well as the level of care that had been taken to restore Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s 1930s building.

Judge Jay Merrick, The Independent’s architecture critic, praised the project’s architects WilkinsonEyre: ‘The restorative aspects of this building have been done with great care. Generally the finishes and quality of materials are very high. It is undoubtedly an excellent building.’
