Blavatnik School of Government project smashes charity target

Laing O’Rourke, main contractor for the recently-completed Blavatnik School of Government project, has more than doubled its fund raising target for a local charity.

The team had pledged to raise £5,000 for Helen & Douglas House which provides care for terminally ill children and young adults, but after throwing themselves into the task the grand total rose to more than £12,000. Money-making activities included running ‘free fruit Fridays’ in the staff canteen, encouraging site visitors to make a donation, and sponsoring runners from the project team for the hospice’s Rainbow Run.

Members of the site team also clocked-up an impressive 240 hours of volunteering at the hospice, helping to improve the therapy garden and carrying out general maintenance.

Steve Holland, Laing O’Rourke project leader, said: ‘I’m hugely proud of my team for their efforts …  it’s hard to think of a more worthy and deserving cause.’
