The University offers a discounted Train Pass scheme on certain rail routes through a partnership with easitOXFORD.  The scheme includes an interest free loan from the University.

Staff travelling on other train routes that are not covered by the discount scheme can still take advantage of the University’s interest free season ticket loan scheme.

The scheme is offered through a partnership with easitOXFORD, an organisation that supports businesses by offering their staff sustainable transport solutions for their journeys to work.

What are the benefits?

  • 15% discount on tickets to Oxford including:  Peak & Off Peak, Singles, Returns, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual and First Class with Great Western Railways (GWR).
  • Single and return tickets can be purchased via the easitWEBSITE All other tickets types must be purchased from a GWR ticket office.
  • An interest free season ticket loan with repayment by monthly deductions from salary over the period of the season ticket is available to staff.

You will require an easitCARD to purchase and travel with a discounted ticket - these cost £4.80 (inc VAT).

Who is entitled?

All staff members paid through the main payroll travelling to Oxford station. You must be able to present an easitCARD when purchasing and travelling with all easit discounted tickets.

How to apply for discounted rail travel through easit

  1. Please check your rail route is on the following map: Great Western Railway Route Map (471kb).
  2. If your route does appear you will need to register for an easitCARD. The cost for an easitCARD is £4.80 (inc VAT) and will be valid for 1 year and 3 weeks. easitCARD's can be purchased online at (you will need to upload a passport style photo).
  3. Your card will be posted out to you - please allow 3 weeks delivery.

Season Ticket Loan Scheme

The University offers an interest-free loan for the purchase of bus, train and Park & Ride car parking season tickets, irrespective of travel routes. 

Discounted bus/train season tickets are only available through the University Bus Pass Scheme and Train Pass Scheme.

How to apply for a Season Ticket Loan

  1. Check the cost of your ticket
  2. Decide whether you require the loan before or after you purchase your ticket: you must provide proof of purchase with your application
  3. Complete and sign the top section of the application form: Season Ticket Loan Form (186kb)
  4. Forward this to your Departmental Administrator for authorisation
  5. If you have not yet purchased your ticket, you will receive a cheque payable to the bus/train company. 
  6. For train season tickets
    1. if you have an easit photo ID card you need to present this when you purchase your rail season ticket
    2. if you are renewing your season ticket and are entitled to a Passenger Charter discount, you need to show your existing ticket
  7. If you have already purchased your ticket the cheque will be payable to you
  8. Monthly deductions from your salary will be taken over the period of the season ticket

Please note that staff are responsible for lost tickets and ticket cancellations.

Information for Departmental Administrators

  • The amount of the loan should be less than the employee's monthly net pay and must not exceed £10,000
  • The loan is repayable through the main payroll
  • Loan cheques can be made either to the employee to reimburse them for a ticket they have already purchased (you must see proof of purchase) or to the bus/train company
