Introduction to Projects

This course is designed for new departmental Finance staff, particularly those who need to understand the Managing Research Awards and Projects process. This includes staff who are responsible for research awards and do not have access to Oracle Financials.


By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the whole process for Managing Research Awards and Projects at the University of Oxford
  • Identify the constituent parts of a project in Oracle Financials, the sources of transactions charged to projects, and the reports available to departments
  • Describe the methods used by the University for overhead recovery
  • Describe the coding structure for projects
  • Describe the permitted uses for the Suspense and Pre-Award accounts
  • Know where to look for further assistance
