My Family Care

My Family Care is a benefit the University provides for all employees, offering access to emergency back-up childcare and adultcare, a 'speak to an expert' phone line and a wide range of guides and webinars through a website called the Work + Family space.

Access to the services, phone lines and web guidance is free for University employees, but you will need to meet the costs of any care that you book.

What is available?

Access emergency backup care for children

By registering you can access emergency childcare: nannies, childminders or nursery places.  You will need to pay for the care that you book.  You can book care close to your home or place of work, or elsewhere in the UK, for example if you are travelling to a conference and would like to take your child with you.

Access backup adult and eldercare

Domiciliary care for an elderly relative, any adult dependent, or even for yourself.

Speak to a Work+Family Expert

Once you've registered with My Family Care you can arrange telephone consultations with a range of experts, to help you with your work+family challenges. Examples of the sorts of topics covered include:

  • Adult and eldercare challenges, such as exploring care options, caring at a distance, covering the costs of care
  • Child development issues
  • Combining work and caring responsibilities

Insider Guides

A library of invaluable, detailed guides makes it easy for you to access the right information on a range of work+family issues, from thinking about starting a family to finding care or arranging power of attorney for an elderly relative.


The website hosts a library of webinars, which is regularly added to, covering a broad range of work+family topics, helping working parents and carers combine work and family life. For example

  • Choosing Schools: What, When, Why?
  • Stress v Pressure at Work and Home
  • Resilience for Carers

Being a Dad

You can access a series of questions and answers, plus regular webinars, exploring parenthood and successfully combining work+family, from the perspective of dads.

Care Search

At an extra cost you can receive expert help and ongoing support to find permanent care, from Adult & Eldercare specialists. A childcare search is also available but you are advised to contact the University’s Childcare Services team in the first instance to explore the University’s own nurseries.

This fantastic one-to-one service is unlike any other in the UK, you can consult with eldercare or childcare experts and a dedicated consultant will take the time to understand  your needs, and conduct a thorough search for childcare or eldercare, or help you recruit.

Nanny Share

Sharing a nanny can be a great, cost effective and flexible childcare solution. You will receive free membership to via a link on the Work+Family Space dashboard.

My Family Care's Work+Family space website is a subscription service, so to access the services you need to register. 

In order to authenticate that you are an eligible employee you need to provide:

  •  your SSO username (dept1234) and
  • your employee number, which you will find on your payslip, on the bottom left hand corner. 

You only need to do this once, after which you can create a personal log-in.
